Announcing Team Dragon’s Realm

Announcing Team Dragon’s Realm

Hello all! It is my pleasure to announce to you the formation of the Dragon’s Realm Magic: the Gathering team! Allow me a few words about our goals, what we do, and what we need from you (yes, YOU!).

Goals

1. Expand, contribute, and foster the Magic: the Gathering community both within The Dragon’s Realm, and the greater Madison-Hanover area.

2. Play in local and national tournaments to grow the reputation of The Dragon’s Realm.

3. Get better, have fun, and bring as many people as we can along with us for the ride!

Pretty straightforward, right? Now let’s look at what we will be doing in order to accomplish these goals.

What We Do

1. Create content (articles, streaming, etc.) for the betterment of ourselves and the community, and for entertainment purposes.

2. Offer advice and foster a welcoming environment for all Magic players that come into the store.

3. Travel to tournaments throughout the tri-state area and the Midwest in general while representing The Dragon’s Realm.

4. Assist other players with attending tournaments alongside us, including helping with transportation, tournament preparation, and procuring cards.

5. Do anything else we can to help however we can!

What We Need

For you guys to engage with us! We need all of you who ever thought to themselves, “Hey, I wonder what it’s like to play in a PPTQ, an IQ, an Open, or a Grand Prix” to come up to us and ask to tag along. For you guys to come up and ask “What’s a PPTQ/IQ/Open/Grand Prix?”, “What’s Tron/Burn/Storm/Jund?”, “What’s an upkeep/draw/main?” and literally any other questions you have. As of right now we are an official team of three players, and while we’re very happy with that lineup, we know that going forward we will need as many of you as possible to get to the point where you can join us, and it is our goal to get you there. We may compete against each other on Friday nights, but make no mistake, we’re all on the same side.

Who Are We?

Without further ado, allow me to introduce the founding members of Team Dragon’s Realm!!

Micheal McClure- Micheal is our resident standard afficionado, and is a voracious consumer of online magic content, keeping tabs on both the standard metagame and limited strategies. When he’s not behind the counter assisting Frank with the day to day operations of the store, he can be found offering advice to any and everyone who will listen, or who happens to be in the general tristate area. Micheal’s accomplishments include a PPTQ win, an IQ win, several day 2s at both Opens and Grand Prixs, (mostly in standard), two top 8 finishes in Starcity Games Classics, and two appearances at the Starcity Games’ Invitational tournament.

Matthew Longville- Matt enjoys both Modern and Standard, and has experienced success in both formats, taking down top 16 finishes in both formats in Starcity Games Opens. Matt is a beginning streamer who plays quite a bit of Magic Online, even though he has been attending tournaments for several years now. Matt is an excellent example of how to balance friendliness and fun alongside playing at a high level, as evidenced by the smiles and laughter one can expect to find on the faces of his opponent’s as you walk up to his games, whether they are at 20 or 1 life. Matt’s accomplishments include multiple SCG Open day 2s, including the aforementioned two top 16 finishes, multiple appearances at the Starcity Games’ Invitational tournament, a penchant for finishing 9th across all levels of competition, and the occasional epic, on camera take down.

David Koon- David is a collector of Modern decks, and thoroughly enjoys Magic’s best format, and has experienced the majority of his success within it. David is what you could call a ‘deck specialist’, which is a fancy, polite way of saying ‘he plays Tron well’ (just kidding, he is capable of piloting myriad modern decks, he just chooses not to. If that sounds like he has a problem, it’s because he does). David’s accomplishments include an IQ victory, a top 8 finish in both a Starcity Games Classic and Regional (both Standard), multiple day two appearances at Opens and Grand Prixes, two appearances at the Starcity Games’ Invitational tournament, and three PPTQ victories, culminating in a top 4 RPTQ finish which earned him a Pro Tour Aether Revolt invitation.

I am also the manager of the team, and if you have any questions about upcoming events, how to join us, or have suggestions for sweet articles, you can add me on Facebook (David Koon), give a shout out on The Dragon’s Realm Facebook page, or e-mail me at koons13@alumni.hanover.edu

Tune in next week when we discuss how to give and receive help within the Magic community!!!
